Finding the Right Film Studios in London.

A quick online search will enable you to find London photography studios which are also great for filming all kinds of content.

If you're particularly looking for South London photography and filming studios it seems to get a bit trickier as the abundance of them seems to be in other areas.

But if you're South London based you no longer need to go that far, Simulacra Studio have moved to new, purpose built studios in Sydenham, SE London.

The new studios are fully equipped for photography and filming, with inclusive lighting kit and a 13m x 3m infinity cove.

There are lots of reasons why this is now my go to studio of choice when filming.

Firstly it's an all in one industrial unit with a high apex roof, great natural light, black out and green screen. For smaller filming jobs such as interviews and talking to camera Studio Two is ideal, whereas if I'm involved in a bigger filming production Studio One accommodates set builds and large crews.

There's also a great third room which is a lounge and kitchen area, plus an office, all of these areas can be closed off with big industrial doors, or opened into one,

co-operative space.

We've also used the lounge for filming, which gave a totally different vibe and backdrop to shooting against the cove wall or using the white brick walls or Colorama.

This set up is great as it means we could split our crew into different tasks without getting in each other's way, make up and styling can be in Studio Two, while the main filming is in Studio One and other members of the team were meeting in the lounge and kitchen reviewing footage over a coffee.

I often feel London is such a competitive, corporate environment, but here we felt instantly that we were among friends, we were greeted with such warm hospitality, no one was aloof, which especially when you're starting out can seem intimidating, as if studio owners don't want to share knowledge, charge loads extra for kit, or have a disinterested studio intern who doesn't want to be there!

Here all the people working have a vested interest in the studio itself, it's their baby so they're very keen to go the extra mile to make sure the client feels looked after.

We were even made a welcome breakfast which was a total surprise, our session was a 12 hour day 8am-8pm and none of us had bothered with breakfast, so this really sorted us out.

The filming went well, but due to a bit of artistic discussion along the way we did overrun half an hour or so and we weren't charged extra, everyone was very understanding and even helped load the van at the end.

Finding filming studios in London is a bit of trial and error, but we've found a studio we'll return to again and again now.
